Fresh Water Paddling in Strathcona Provincial Park

Updated: Sep 23, 2019

Most people go to Strathcona Park for the abundance of hiking trails but not many come to enjoy the water from a paddle board. Drive East on Hwy 28 from Campbell River on route to Strathcona Provincial Park to discover a private paradise of fresh water paddling! Once you've made it into the park you'll reach a fork in the road, your going to want to follow Buttle Lake along Westmin Mine Road (Don't go right over the bridge). Drive for only a minute or two and park at the boat launch just past park headquarters. Once there you can put in and paddle North on Buttle Lake going under the bridge and into Upper Campbell Lake. You'll find quite a few private islands to explore and chill out on for the day. Or go for multi day trips and take advantage of the few marine campsites in the area too. This is a great paddle full of beautiful scenery and warm temps in the summer months for swimming. Keep in mind the winds typically pick up in afternoon and blow south. So plan to get on the water earlier then enjoy a downwinder on the way back.
